Dance

You might not cut the most impressive moves on the dancefloor, but who cares once you’ve a Beyonce bod. Just 15 minutes of dancing can see you burn as much as 115 calories! Multiply that into an hour of dancing and you’ve earned yourself some serious rewards.

Want a personal trainer but don’t have €60 an hour to fork out on fees? Get downloading one of the many free workout apps. Choose something specific to your lifestyle, interests and ability. Then all you need is your phone and you’ve a personal trainer right in your ear – when and where you want them. That’s even better then the real thing!

Notice your local park

Often wonder what that green area is doing, right beside the handy metropolis you live in? That’s a park. Familiarise yourself and the family with it and you’ll find it’s a much nicer place to be then on a treadmill. Fresh air, birds singing and sun on your back as you exercise. You’re sure to feel like a million dollars.  

Step it up

It might sound like the oldest most clichéd trick in the book but taking the stairs means you can burn ten calories a minute going up and seven coming down. That’s definitely got to add up to an extra choccie bar off the hips every once in a while. 

Hit the beach

InIrelandwe’re never more then two hours from a beach. And while it might not exactly beCaliforniaweather, recently it’s been more France then North Pole. A brisk walk with the dog, a waters edge jog, or even a swim – get yourself down there for some exercise and get that healthy glow! 

Get off the bus

Ditching the bus stop a stop or two early can add 15 minutes to your daily exercise routine, so why not get off before you have to. Even better, walk or cycle to your workplace – or park the car much further away then usual and walk the rest.  

YouTube it

If you don’t want to splash out on the latest celebrities workout video (deep down you know she didn’t get that figure the natural way) then hit the internet instead. YouTube is home to tens of thousands of fitness videos. Some of them might be rubbish, but every so often you can come across a hidden gem.

Lose the trolley

Carry your basket of goods instead of getting a trolley. You’ll not only save Euros – you’ll also end up with upper arms worthy of none other then Jennifer Aniston. Just don’t blame us if you can’t find your Brad Pitt…

Free equipment 

They say one mans trash is another mans treasure. Why pay for fitness equipment when you can get it for free? FreeCycle is a movement of local websites that see’s people passing on their unwanted belongings for free. You never know, that exercise bike you’ve always wanted might be waiting. Advert ab attack

You might think the advert break is there so you can go and make a cup of tea and a biscuit – or even to adjust the cushions so you’re more comfortable. From now it’s your ‘brief exercise time’. Whether its 10 lunges, 30 ab-burning sit ups or 10 press ups – it’s the perfect pick-me-up.   

Get down on it

Want a JLO ass but don’t know how she got it? Try squats. They can be done almost anywhere. Aim for 15 to 20 slow, steady squat repetitions at least twice a day. Then build it up to four times a day if you improve. Place your feet hip width apart, push your hips backwards and bend your knees. Just maybe don’t try it in your office.
